SASC 150th Anniversary – 1872-2022

On Tuesday, 1st October 1872 in Tom Keary’s Hotel on the corner of William and Brougham Streets, Sydney, a meeting culminated in the formation of Sydney Amateur Sailing Club with four boats and 12 members.  In 2022 we celebrate our 150th Anniversary as one of the oldest sailing clubs in Australia.

Anniversary Party, Fair and Regatta

The 150th Anniversary Party was held on Friday evening 9th September.  The Regatta and Fair  was held on Saturday 10th September 2022.  These events embraced the culture of the Club that we have all come to love and enjoy over the last 150 years.

Exhibition at the SASC Clubhouse

The Amateurs first conducted sail boat racing on Sydney Harbour in 1872 and in our 150th season we are in robust health. To celebrate this milestone we collated an archive of historical images centred on Mosman Bay which was exhibited at our clubhouse.  The exhibition displayed approximately 80 images, mainly prints of photographs and included many interesting images and artefacts relating to Mosman Bay.

This exhibition has now closed – To download a list of photos on exhibit and accompanying notes click on the link: Mosman Bay Exhibition at SASC – Notes to accompany photos

SASC Archives Project:

We have very dedicated people sorting and digitising much of our history and the Archive Project files are available to view on the website, in addition to PDF versions of the Amateurs books.  SASC Archives .
